Annabelle Comes Home | 50 Days of Horror, Day 2

Night two, and the countdown trades a whole town for one house and one very bad night. Annabelle Comes Home turns the Warrens' artifact room into something you basically walk through — a babysitter's friend can't leave the locked door alone, and everything shelved in there gets loose at once. It plays less like a single story and more like a haunted house with rooms to move through: a ferryman who announces himself with coins, a bridal gown that's picked up a taste for knives, a television tuned to somewhere else, a hellhound stalking the halls.

That's exactly why it earns a slot this early — nothing here needs backstory. Each thing loose in that house comes with one clear rule and one clear look, so the scares land without homework. Notice how much of it arrives through sound before sight — the coins clattering ahead of the ferryman, the TV's hum warming up before the picture actually changes. Lazy in the wrong hands; here it mostly holds together.

This is a shadow movie at heart, so it lives or dies on black levels — if you're picking a disc, look for a transfer that holds real shapes in the dark instead of crushing everything into gray mush. Lights off, volume up slightly, something to grab onto for the moments that get you. Not the scariest thing the Conjuring universe has made, but a solid on-ramp if anyone in the room is only Conjuring-curious. Anyone got a disc release of this one they'd actually recommend, or am I hunting blind?
